As a major snowstorm brought heavy snow to southern Ontario Friday evening, residents were met with another, surprising, weather phenomenon. On 1 June 2021, the team announced that it was changing its name to the Edmonton Elks. Gizmo worked tirelessly in the community throughout his career and in 1999 was honoured with the teams Community Services Award. The current Edmonton Elks franchise was founded as the Edmonton Eskimos in 1949, in what is now known as the modern era of Canadian football.
