CDBG Community Development Block Program Grant |

Chariton Valley Planning & Development Council recently added a new program to it’s list of services. The Housing Rehabilitation Program was created to assist communities with the struggles of a aging housing stock. Rehabilitation grants are offered by HUD and Iowa Economic Development Authority. |

Communities demonstrate their needs through a competitive application
process. The grant monies assist owners in bringing their property
up to meeting the Iowa Home Safety Standards. This is an income
qualifying program that can provide rehabilitations for roofs, siding,
foundation repair, lead reduction,
windows, etc. Through the State’s annual CDBG allocation from HUD competitive housing applications can be submitted for owner-occupied rehabilitation for low to moderate income households. The assistance to single-family homeowners are able to rehabilitate those homes to bring them up to the Minimum Housing Rehabilitation Standards. Applications from the community sponsored area are usually due in December with award decision in March. The maximum per unit for rehabilitation is $37,500 which includes hard costs of rehab work, technical services, including lead hazard reduction and temporary relocation. Hard costs are limited to $24,999 for construction. |
